You have the black eyes...

It's official. I'm obsessed with this band.

This song in particular reminds me so much of that feeling you have between winter and spring. That feeling of thaw that is going on all around you and the longing feeling you have for warmth that just makes you a little bit sad.

It's easy to have nostalgia for Michigan from my very comfortable and warm place in Florida these days. At the time I sometimes hated the consistency of grayness that poured out of the winter sky, the dampness, the frigid air, and the death that is winter. But, there is nothing like the sense of rebirth going on both around you and inside of you when Spring hits. I miss that, a little bit.

When it comes to music, I'm not very musical. It's usually the lyricism that gets me, hence my love affair with singer/songwriter legends . . . Joanna Newsom, Bob Dylan, Conor Oberst, Elliott Smith... I could go on.  Then they had to go throwing in a banjo and saw and lyrics that evoke so much imagery like "you have the black eyes, just holes filled with night sky." Yes.

  1. oh, I think you might like Fly My Pretties - 'Singin in my soul'. A Wellington, NZ band. It's one of my favourite peace out stilling songs. You might be able to watch/hear them on this link
