small bears

In other news... Henry is doing much better. I did not share but he got all crazy on us. One day he was fine and the next he was all woozy, couldn't stand up and stopped eating-- truly acting like he was on shrooms or something. After a stressful trip to the Vet and some medicine he is better than ever now! We think he may have actually eaten something he shouldn't have in the yard, perhaps some magical mushrooms that sent him tripping for a few days.

For those who do not know Henry personally, he came to us as a rescue pup, found roaming around along a busy highway and we know very little about his life before that or even how old he is. This past weekend I had a dream that he was born on a farm to a loving owner, but lived most of his life outside. His owner was kind but traditional and kept his animals in a large chained link fence area. Henry was his favorite and had greater reign of the farm & nearby barn. One day he started wandering and found a small loophole in a fence and continued wandering... to the highway where he was found. (If given freedom, Henry will likely walk in a straight line & never turn around)

We think he may now be around 10 years old, but even 5 years ago when he came to us he was already blind in one eye, had a penchant for wandering, poor hearing, a bum leg, smoker's cough and mild scoliosis. Upon hearing his sad little story one might initally feel sorry for him, but knowing him you would not know any of these ailments have an impact on his daily life. He's a sweet little bear, and although in recent months his health has been failing him a bit, we are hopeful he will be around with us as long as possible.

Meet Henry, he likes keeping tabs on me...

kissing up on dad....

Sitting in the sun watching all the squirrels go by...

Chilling in the grass...

and just being plain ol' cool.

  3. Gorgeous! He has a cute face huh! I was just talking to the kids today about their thoughts on getting a cat.....of course they're all for it. I do mean an RSPCA (pound) 2nd hand grown cat who likes kids (does such a cat exist?).... Glad to see you're back bloggin.

  4. OOOO! He is so darn cute! I made my husband come in and look at the darling puppy! He liked the picture of Henry in a picture frame, though he did confuse it with a painting. "Who painted that?" He asked. Funny stuff.
